LPN and LVN Staffing Without Long-Term Contracts
Clipboard is a staffing marketplace built for shifts that come up at short notice. Facilities in long-term care, home health, hospice and hospitals use it to book LPN and LVN shifts.
You post the hall and hours you need, and an LPN or LVN whose license is already checked picks it up. You don’t have to choose or approve who comes in, and you pay nothing until the shift is staffed.
Every LPN and LVN comes with a verified license and shifts already logged on Clipboard. If someone doesn’t turn up, we connect you with a replacement at no extra cost.

LPNs and LVNs Keep the Med Pass Moving
LPN and LVN are one license under two names, and both are earned by passing the NCLEX-PN. California and Texas say licensed vocational nurse, every other state says licensed practical nurse, and you book the same role either way.
The role sits between the CNA and the RN. Buildings book LPNs and LVNs to carry the med pass and scheduled treatments, so RNs can keep to assessments and care plans. Your state sets the scope and your facility directs the work.
What LPN and LVN Staffing Covers
Dressing changes, wound checks and scheduled treatments build up quickly when a nurse is out, and most cannot wait for tomorrow. Get the shift covered that morning and they still get done on the day they’re due.
Whether an LPN or LVN can start or manage an IV depends on your state and on a separate IV certification. Clipboard checks certifications along with the license before anyone takes the shift, so there’s no paperwork for you to chase.
LPN and LVN Staffing Across Care Settings
The same LPN or LVN license covers quite different work from one setting to the next. Wherever they work, an LPN or LVN who calls out leaves medications and treatments that are due today. Post it on Clipboard and it reaches LPNs and LVNs close by that morning.
Post-acute residents often arrive with wounds, drains and IV antibiotics, so a rehab hall’s treatment list can run longer than its med pass. Cover the hall the day it opens up, and wound care and antibiotics stay on schedule.
An RN case manager writes the plan of care, and the LPN or LVN carries out the visits under it: wound care, medications and vital signs. When your LPN is away, the RN keeps the plan and you book cover for the visits already on the schedule.
Hospitals use LPNs and LVNs more narrowly than long-term care does, and what they may do differs by hospital and by state. Every license is checked ahead of time, so you aren’t screening nurses while the unit waits.
What Our Expert Says
LPN and LVN staffing matters most at the start of a med pass. When a nurse calls out, the pass window does not move, so the hall either waits or someone picks up a second cart and runs late on both. Buildings that post the gap as soon as they hear about it usually get through the round on time, often with a nurse who already knows their eMAR.

Frequently Asked Questions
You post a shift and it goes straight to LPNs and LVNs near you. 95% of shifts are covered when posted a day in advance, and you can post a same-day shift when a nurse calls out ahead of the med pass.
Only the title. LVN is used in California and Texas and LPN in every other state. Both hold a practical nursing license earned by passing the NCLEX-PN, so the role you post is the same whichever title your state uses.
You pay an hourly rate for the LPN or LVN you booked, and it costs nothing to post or cancel a shift. Rates reflect local pay, so they differ by area. There’s no minimum commitment.
Book by the work the shift carries. Admission assessments, care plans and anything your state reserves for registered nurses need an RN. Med passes, scheduled treatments and routine monitoring are usually booked as LPN or LVN shifts.
We connect you with a replacement at no extra cost as soon as we know. If an LPN or LVN cancels ahead of the shift, a replacement is looked for automatically. If the shift can’t be filled, you’re not charged for it.
Identity and license are checked before an LPN or LVN can pick up a shift. None of that lands on your desk, so the time you’d spend vetting goes back to the floor.
It depends on your state and the nurse’s certification. Some states let LPNs and LVNs start and manage IVs after an approved course, and others limit or rule it out. Where a nurse holds one, Clipboard verifies it alongside the license.
Yes. If an LPN or LVN is a good fit for your team, you can offer them a permanent role. There’s no placement fee and no conversion fee for making the offer, and the professional decides whether to accept.
Skilled nursing and long-term care are the largest employers of LPNs and LVNs, with home health, hospice and hospitals behind them. Each needs cover for different work, from pass times to treatment lists to visit schedules.
