This post is titled “AI Writing” but actually it’s just all just… your writing. And that is the fundamental thing to remember when using AI, a word processor, a ballpoint pen, whichever tool you choose to wield. AI writing is your writing, and we’ll have the same standards for it as for all your other work: clear, concise, and survives scrutiny.
Whether you used AI or a ballpoint pen, unclear writing is still your unclear writing. Whether you wrote the SQL yourself or had Claude write a query you never read, an incorrect query is your incorrect query. Whatever tools you use, you stand behind every idea, every graph, every sentence. Finally, please remember that in the age of AI shorter is even better. If you take less effort to write it, and that means the reader must expend more effort to parse & understand it, that’s a massive loss to the team. Each piece of work has many readers but usually only one writer.
And finally, remember that writing is thinking. The act of writing out the words forces cohesion and contemplation. Some people use voice recognition for some writing and don’t use it for other writing on purpose based on context. I sometimes write longhand with a ballpoint pen because I want the contemplation and planning that the tool engenders. It’s a feature, not a bug. Don’t let the availability of AI writing tools rob you of the chance to think deeply.
Thanks everyone. -Bo
